Club History

Erie Ice Basketball was formed in the Fall of 2012 with the goal of creating boys travel basketball teams that combined local players from different schools and socioeconomic backgrounds to develop all the boys basketball skills under the coaching of experienced basketball coaches.  In its inaugural year, Erie Ice had one 4th grade boys team that competed locally and in AAU tournaments in Pittsburgh and Cleveland.  The program quickly expanded adding new teams each year and traveling to larger, more competitive tournaments.  Coaches remain with their team and players retain their spot on the team each year, unless they fail to meet the expectations set forth by their coaches.  This policy has fostered a strong bond among the players and their coaches both on and off the court.   Our Erie Ice coaches focus not only on improving players' basketball skills, but stress the importance of exhibiting positive behaviors on the court, in school, and in the community.

Erie Ice Basketball teams have experienced a great deal of success in the last five AAU seasons, winning multiple tournaments in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Erie.  Our teams and coaches are recognized as a regional powerhouse.  Our middle and high school players are standout players for their school teams and come together at the conclusion of school season to travel in the spring and summer.  Erie Ice Basketball teams are intended for players who desire to play basketball at a higher level of competition, in high school and possibly college.     Coaches focus on developing players' skills in 3rd through 7th grade and then focus on college exposure for players 8th through 11th grade.   Erie Ice currently has players ranging from 3rd through 11th grade from over 20 different schools, public and private.

In December, 2015, Erie Ice Basketball received 501c3 non-profit status, allowing all donations to be 100% tax deductible.  In January 2018, our organization became affiliated with the Jr.NBA, which benefits our coaches and players. We are pleased to announce the addition of our first girls 4th/5th girls travel team for the Spring 2018 season to bring our total number of teams to eight.
